Medical instruments
Do you remember when I was working the medical museum in the Czech Natoinal Medical Library? I was given a box full of 100 year old medical instruments, and asked to identify them, with a 1930s sales catalogue / brochure thingie to help me. I took some great photos and promised you them. Well, here is a selection of instruments and my favourite gadgets from the catalogue!
I identified the middle ones as rib shears. Post-mortem, it seemed. I wouldn’t want to think of them being used on someone who was still alive.
You have to love the sales speak here!
The man in the apron is straight out of Hammer Horror, his face is so scary! And did you know they use the same picture for the surgeon as for the post-mortem man? Stay away, don’t do it!
Lovely. Just what you want shoved inside you.
If you choose your favourite, I’m sure I can ask Simon to do me a favour and smuggle it over! I like the stomach clamping forceps best.
Just wanted to share!
